How many electrolysis sessions will I need?
Electrolysis session needs vary greatly depending on the area size and hair density. Small areas like the upper lip might need 8-15 sessions, while larger areas require more. The key difference is that electrolysis removes hair one at a time, so dense areas take longer.
Does electrolysis hurt more than laser hair removal?
Yes, electrolysis is more uncomfortable than laser hair removal. It feels like a heat sensation in each follicle as the probe treats individual hairs. However, the discomfort is brief for each hair, and topical numbing is available.
Will my hair grow back?
The follicle is lined with stem cells that produce the hairs. We have to destroy all cells in order for the hair to stop growing completely, which means it is very rare for a hair to die in just one treatment. Any hair that returns after electrolysis is often finer and lighter than before.
How far apart are treatments spaced?
Electrolysis frequency depends on your hair density and goals. Some clients come weekly for faster progress, others every two weeks or monthly. Electrolysis can be more flexible since it treats hair regardless of growth cycle.
Should I do laser first, then electrolysis?
For clients with black or brown hair, laser is typically all that we recommend. For clients with blonde, grey, or red hair, we recommend electrolysis. If you have a mix of black/brown and blonde/grey hairs, we can do a combination approach. Our Licensed Master Estheticians will recommend the best approach for your specific needs and goals.
How do I prepare for electrolysis treatment?
Let hair grow to about 1/8 inch length so the probe can properly access the follicle. Come to your appointment with clean skin, free of makeup or lotions. We’ll provide complete pre-treatment instructions during your consultation.
